ALAMOSA – Three additional San Luis Valley football teams won their first-round games, while another saw its season come to an end.
Centauri 35, North Fork 21
The fourth-ranked Falcons defeated the Miners by a score of 35-21 Saturday at the CHS Field.
Sean Jarvies completed six of seven passes for 133 yards. Carson Shawcroft was his top target with two catches for 54 yards.
Marson Atencio was the leading rusher with 53 yards on 15 carries, and Dallyn King had 50 yards on four carries.
Centauri (9-1) will travel to Ault to face Highlands on Saturday. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
Monte Vista 21, Colorado Springs Christian 0
The 10th-ranked Pirates traveled to Colorado Springs on Friday and defeated seventh-ranked Colorado Springs Christian 21-0 at UCCS Mountain Lion field.
Monte Vista led 7-0 at halftime and put the game away with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Manny Jiron completed two of three passes for 39 yards. Judah Howe led the ground game with 131 yards on 22 carries, followed by Azariah Hurtado with 61 yards on 10 carries, and Kelby Mondragon with 58 yards on 10 carries.
Monte Vista (7-3) will host second-ranked Limon on Saturday. Kickoff at Harvey Sullivan Stadium is at 1 p.m.
Sierra Grande 62, Granada 19
The eighth-ranked Panthers defeated the ninth-ranked Bobcats 62-19 at the SGHS field.
Sierra Grande took a 14-0 lead after the first quarter and the lead grew to 38-6 at halftime. The Panthers led 54-12 after three quarters.
Jadyn Martinez completed eight of 18 passes for 112 yards and four touchdowns. Rolando Najera was the top receiver with four receptions for 107 yards and three touchdowns.
Martinez also led the ground game with 106 yards on 15 carries and he scored four touchdowns.
Sierra Grande (10-1) will travel to top-ranked Idalia on Saturday with kickoff slated for noon.
Wellington 48, Alamosa 0
The Alamosa football team saw its season come to an end on Saturday as it lost to second-ranked Wellington 48-0 in Wellington.
The Eagles led 14-0 after the first quarter, 42-0 at halftime and 48-0 after three quarters.
Tony Griego completed four of 11 passes for 44 yards. A.J. Baker was the rushing leader with 36 yards on eight carries.
The Mean Moose’s final record was six wins and four losses.
