SOUTH FORK – The Town of South Fork held a special meeting April 14 to swear in trustees and the new mayor. South Fork held one of the most competitive elections to date with 12 candidates for a total of five positions.
Outgoing Mayor Pro-Tem Sarah Sparrow opened the meeting as outgoing Mayor Tyler Schmidt was called away for an emergency. South Fork Attorney Gene Farish swore in the four new trustees, Dusty Hicks, Cory Iten, Mike Biggerstaff and Michele Cruse before swearing in new Mayor Kevin Stickens.
The newly elected board took their seats and continued the meeting after a short break to thank the outgoing board members. Once the meeting was reconvened, the board elected Iten to serve as Mayor Pro-Tem and voted to appoint Iris Devlin to fill the seat of Mayor Stickens.
The SLV Journal reached out to outgoing mayor Schmidt after the meeting to give a statement.
“It’s been an honor to serve alongside the board members and employees for the last eight years. They are the backbone of South Fork, and it’s been a pleasure to be involved with such great people. I have every confidence in newly appointed Mayor Kevin Stickens and look forward to watching the new board continue with the growth of the town.”
The Town of South Fork hosts regular board meetings on the third Tuesday of the month at the South Fork Community Center at 6 p.m. The meetings are open to the public. More information can be found on their website at www. Townofsouthfork.colorado.gov.
