ALAMOSA — San Luis Valley Trout Unlimited would like to invite all interested individuals to its monthly meeting on Thursday, April 24, at 7 p.m. at the Alamosa Senior Center, 92 Colorado Ave. The community is invited to join a special evening of conservation and youth-led innovation.

This month’s program will highlight the winners of the 2025 SLV TU Coldwater Resources Award from the San Luis Valley Regional Science Fair. Featured student presenters include Reagan Futrell and Addison Mondragon, who will share their award-winning research projects that explore real-world solutions to watershed and fisheries challenges.

Reagan Futrell will present “Gaining Ground: Effectiveness of Zeedyk Structures on Herbaceous Establishment and Moisture Retention Within Waterways,” a project investigating how process-based restoration structures can improve ecological resilience. Addison Mondragon’s project, “Sink or Swim: Effects of Varied Conservation Methods on Fishery Success,” evaluates which conservation strategies are most effective.

The evening will also feature Daniel Boyes from the Rio Grande Headwaters Restoration Project. Boyes will provide updates on ongoing local watershed restoration efforts, including independent projects, which aim to improve river function on the Rio Grande.

This presentation is free and open to the public. All are welcome to attend and learn how local youth and community partners are advancing cold-water conservation in the San Luis Valley.

As always, the meeting is open to the public. For more information, call 719-588-7678.
