SOUTH FORK – After almost four years away, the Shady Burro Enduro event will be returning to South Fork. In 2022, the group pulled out of South Fork after an extremely wet season which caused damage to local trails after the enduro circuit left and according to event coordinator Jud Barlow, they are very excited to be coming back.
“2022 was a horribly wet year and there was some miscommunication with the RGNF Divide Ranger District. We have spent the last year working together to get those lines of communication reopened. Patrick Moran and I have made plans for the event this year and we also made some changes but the one that stays the same is how excited we are to come back,” said Barlow.
The Shady Burro Enduro brought hundreds of enduro riders to the South Fork area for several days to enjoy the miles of trails in the South Fork area. It was dubbed one of the best enduro events throughout the state, making it a highly popular event among enduro riders from around the world.
“One of the changes we will make this year is that this event will only be open to Colorado riders. This will make it so those participating are familiar with Colorado trail stewardship, which is very important to us. We are starting fresh from this point forward,” said Barlow.
Additional changes include hosting the event at a better time of year.
“Historically we just happened to come right at the start of the monsoon season and that just didn’t work out for anyone. This year we will be coming earlier and coincide with Logger Days the weekend of July 18 and 19,” Barlow said.
The Shady Burro Enduro will also be hosting a fundraiser prior to the event that will include live entertainment, enduro-based vendors and more.
“Anyone can come down to the pits and join in. We always like to give back to the communities that host us whether that is us being there buying gas, food and supporting local businesses or by raising funding to help with trail maintenance. Our goal is to leave a community better than we found it,” Barlow said.
More information will be announced as details are worked out for the coming event.
