Pagosa wins Alamosa Invitational

ALAMOSA – The Alamosa High School boys golf team played at home for the only time this season on Friday as it hosted its annual tournament at Cattails Golf Course.

A total of 64 players from 14 teams competed at the tournament.

Monte Vista and Del Norte also played in the tournament. However, Pagosa Springs came away with the victory.

The Mean Moose finished in third place with 255 behind Pagosa and Rye. They were led by Serjio Najera who placed seventh with an 84. Eliott MacKey was right behind Najera in eighth place with an 85, and Clayton Treinen tied for ninth with an 86.

Gibson Gillespie tied for 17th with an 89.

Four more Alamosa golfers competed but they played as extras and did not figure in the team score. Zavier Medina and Brady Van Iwaarden both tied for 12th with an 87, Foster Boyd was 39th with a 104, and Jace Sanchez was 51st with a 112.

Monte Vista placed fourth with 259. Connor Mellott led the Pirates as he took fourth place with a 77. Jakoby Ross tied for 12th with an 87, Aiden Ford was 24th with a 95, and Corbin Castillo tied for 26th with a 96.

Four more Pirates also played as extras and did not figure in the team scoring. Jason Gonzales tied for 22nd with a 92, Otto Gosar was 53rd with a 115, Rylen Ross tied for 56th with a 124, and Zaiden Villagomez tied for 59th with a 131.

Del Norte was 12th with 369. Leading the Tigers was Landon Velasquez who was 48th with a 110, followed by Damon Ledford-Vigil who was 58th with a 126, and Julian Vigil who was 61st with a 133.

Pagosa Springs’ Johnathon Smith was the medalist with an even-par 71.

Durango Invitational

Alamosa and Monte Vista played at the Durango Invitational which took place Monday at Hill Crest Golf Course.

The Pirates finished 13th out of 21 teams with 256. They were led by Mellott who placed fifth with a 74. Jakoby Ross tied for 28th with an 84, Castillo tied for 85th with a 98, Ford tied for 90th with a 101, and Gonzales was 98th with a 111.

The Mean Moose were 18th with 271. Najera led Alamosa as he tied for 56th with an 88, Medina tied for 68th with a 91, Treinen was 70th with a 92, and MacKey and Ban Iwaarden tied for 74th with a 94.

Fruita Monument was the team champion with 225. Durango was second with 234, Pagosa Springs was third with 238, Grand Junction was fourth with 239, and Telluride was fifth with 241.

Cody Lans of Fruita Monument was the medalist with an even par 71.

Montezuma-Cortez Invitational

The teams were at the Montezuma-Cortez Invitational Tuesday at Conquistador Golf Course. Those results will be published on Saturday.
