ALAMOSA – The Alamosa High School boys soccer team hosted a tough foe on Tuesday in Class 4A Pueblo County, the South-Central League champions.
The Hornets proved why they are their league champs as they rolled to an 8-1 win over the Mean Moose.
“Pueblo County always plays us very tough and they’re a fantastic team,” said Alamosa coach Hector Ramos Garcia. “We wish them luck this season as they continue on.”
The Hornets didn’t take long to get on the scoreboard as Joshua Taylor scored off a Kade Fisher assist in the 10th minute.
Fisher scored the next two goals for Pueblo County. First, he scored off a Victor Hernandez assist in the 19th minute, and then he got a goal off a Sayer Vargues assist 10 minute later.
Jacob Flores scored the fourth goal off another Vargues assist in the 31st minute.
Fisher then completed the hat trick in the 36th minute on a penalty kick and the Hornets led 5-0 at halftime.
Fisher scored the first two goals of the second half. He scored off a Flores assist in the 46th minute, and then on another penalty kick in the 60th minute.
Alamosa averted the shutout in the 72nd minute as Cipriano Ramirez scored an unassisted goal.
The Hornets got one more goal in the final minute as Marcus Maes scored off a Fisher assist.
Fisher finished the game with five goals and two assists.
Pueblo County outshot Alamosa 17-14.
Todd Broyles stated the game in goal and recorded four saves. Marvin Rodas went into goal in the 50th minute and had five saves.
The Hornets had 10 corner kicks and the Mean Moose had five.
Alamosa (2-8-3, 1-2-2) traveled to Leadville to face Lake County on Thursday. Tonight, the Mean Moose will close out the season by hosting Montezuma-Cortez with game time scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
“We’re looking for a strong end to our season,” Ramos Garcia said. “It’s always fun to end the season with a division rival in Cortez. So we look forward to welcoming them into our stadium and make it a good game.”
