Capulin resident Maria Adela (Della) Lucero, 79, went home to be with the Lord on April 26th, 2026 . Della was born on September 15, 1946 in Capulin, Colorado, the daughter of Elizardo and Eva Vigil.
She was united in marriage to the love of her life Gilbert E. Lucero on September 3, 1961 in Conejos. The two shared a long, happy and loving union until his passing.
She was an excellent cook. She made the best red chile enchiladas and Spanish rice. Her tortillas were always so soft and delicious. Her sweet rice was exceptional.
Her faith in God was very strong. Della loved playing the piano and singing hymns, loved southern gospel music, and spending time with her family.
She will be dearly missed. Della was a devoted and loving mom, sister, aunt, grandma, great grandma, and great-great grandma.
She will live on through her children Gilbert Joel (Joann) Lucero of Thornton, CO; Margie (David) Martinez of Alamosa, CO; Lena (Steven) Martinez of La Jara, CO; Loretta (Brian) Ehrhardt of Northglenn, CO; Marcie (Jason) Whiting of Thornton, CO; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 1 great great grandson and one on the way, sisters Eloisa Manzanares, Emily Gomez, brothers Ben Vigil, Lee Vigil, Eloy Vigil. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Della was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert, daughter Elizabeth, grandson TJ, parents Elizardo and Eva Vigil, one sister Elva Valdez.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Templo Cristiano Capulin Assembly of God Church in Capulin. Interment will follow at the Gomez Cemetery.
