Priscilla Helen Gallegos, 88, of North Richland Hills, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026.
She was born on March 15, 1938, in Capulin, Colorado, to Rodolfo and Flossie Chavez. As the eldest daughter, Priscilla lovingly helped her parents raise her younger siblings. She graduated from Capulin High School in 1956.
Priscilla began her career in 1966 as a teacher in the Head Start program. She later attended Adams State College, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Guidance and Counseling, graduating in 1975. She began working in themental health field at the San Luis Valley Mental Health Center. She later moved to Pueblo, Colorado, where she spent most of her career as a Hospital Administrator at the Colorado State Hospital. Priscilla eventually returned to Capulin, where she completed her professional career at Conejos County Hospital. While in retirement, she worked with the Migrant Head Start Program, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to serving others.
Outside of her professional life, Priscilla found joy in spending time with her family, maintaining close friendships, traveling, completing jigsaw and crossword puzzles and reading. She was rooted in her Catholic faith but was also curious about other faiths. Priscilla will be fondly remembered for her quiet strength, quick wit, compassionate spirit, and the love she so generously shared with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is lovingly survived by her children: Geraldine Gallegos de Loya (Baldomero), Mark Gallegos (Peggy), Cynthia Gallegos, Carol Gallegos (Eric Gachelin), and Ernie Gallegos; her siblings: Epifanio Chavez, Amada Peterson, and Felipe Chavez (Loretta); as well as six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
Priscilla was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Angie LaVoie; her parents, Rodolfo Chavez and Flossie Chavez (Mondragon); and her siblings, Albert Chavez, Richard Chavez, Conrado Chavez, Snappy Chavez, and Cece Clary.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 30, 2026, at St. Joseph Parish 19895 Co Rd 8, Capulin, CO 81124
