ALAMOSA – The ninth week of the 2024 high school football season in the San Luis Valley is this weekend with all but two local teams in action.
The following are thumbnail sketches of the games.
ALAMOSA (4-3, 2-1) AT SALIDA (3-4, 1-2)
This week: The Alamosa Mean Moose will be on the road to face the Salida Spartans on Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
Last week: The Mean Moose lost to Montezuma-Cortez 28-21 in Cortez last Friday. The Spartans defeated Bayfield 28-7 at home last Thursday.
Next week: Alamosa will host Pagosa Springs next Friday at 7 p.m. Salida will travel to Gunnison for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
ANTONITO (0-6, 0-4), IDLE
This week: The Antonito Trojans are idle this week.
Last week: The Trojans were to have played the 10th-ranked Primero Bulldogs last Saturday, however, the game was postponed because La Veta Pass was unpassable.
Next week: Antonito and Primero will play a make-up game next Wednesday in Weston. Kickoff is at 5:30 p.m.
#3 CENTAURI (7-0, 3-0) AT TRINDAD (2-4, 1-2)
This week: The third-ranked Centauri Falcons will travel to take on the Trinidad Miners on Saturday. Kickoff at Dutch Nogel Field at Miner Stadium is at 1 p.m.
Last week: The Falcons had an open week after Del Norte canceled the remainder of its varsity season. The Miners forfeited its game at Monte Vista.
Next week: Centauri will play at Monte Vista next Friday. Game time at Harvey Sullivan Field is at 6 p.m. Trinidad will travel to Center next Friday with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
CENTER (0-7, 0-3), IDLE
This week: The Center Vikings will have an open date as Del Norte canceled the rest of its varsity football season.
Last week: The Vikings lost at Ignacio 50-0 last Friday.
Next week: Center will host Trinidad next Friday at 1 p.m.
CROWLEY COUNTY (3-4, 2-1) AT SANGRE DE CRISTO (1-5, 0-3)
This week: The Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds will host the Crowley County Chargers on Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
Last week: The Thunderbirds lost at Walsenburg 46-0 on Monday. The Chargers defeated Custer County in Westcliffe 58-6 last Friday.
Next week: Sangre de Cristo will travel to Westcliffe to take on Custer County next Friday at 7 p.m. Crowley County host Fowler next Friday at 7 p.m.
#4 DOVE CREEK (6-1, 3-0) AT SARGENT (3-4, 1-2)
This week: The Sargent Farmers will host the fourth-ranked Dove Creek Bulldogs on Friday. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Last week: The Farmers lost at Norwood 52-16 last Friday. The Bulldogs defeated Dolores 40-0 at home last Friday.
Next week: Sargent will travel to face second-ranked Mancos next Friday at 7 p.m. Dove Creek will host Sanford next Friday at 3 p.m.
MONTE VISTA (5-2, 3-0) AT IGNACIO (3-4, 2-1)
This week: The Monte Vista Pirates will be on the road to face the Ignacio Bobcats on Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
Last week: The Pirates received a forfeit win against Trinidad. The Bobcats defeated Center 50-0 at home last Friday.
Next week: Monte Vista will host third-ranked Centauri next Friday. Kickoff at Harvey Sullivan Field as at 6p.m.
SANFORD (4-3, 2-1) AT DOLORES (2-5, 0-3)
This week: The Sanford Mustangs will travel to meet the Dolores Bears on Friday. Game time is at 2 p.m.
Last week: The Mustangs lost to second-ranked Mancos 34-20 at home last Friday. The Bears lost at fourth-ranked Dove Creek 40-0 last Friday.
Next week: Sanford will travel to fourth-ranked Dove Creek next Friday with kickoff slated for 3 p.m. Dolores will be on the road to Norwood next Friday with a game time at 7 p.m.
#3 SIERRA GRANDE (7-0, 5-0) AT LA VETA (2-5, 2-2)
This week: The third-ranked Sierra Grande Panthers will wrap up the regular season be traveling to the La Veta Redhawks on Thursday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
Last week: The Panthers wrapped up the Southwest League championship last Saturday with a 59-14 win over Cotopaxi at John Roybal Jr. Field. The Redhawks lost to Caliche 55-6 at home last Friday.
Next week: Sierra Grande will have an open date. La Veta will host Manzanola next Friday at 7 p.m.
