ALAMOSA – The Alamosa and Monte Vista High School boys golf teams competed at the Montezuma-Cortez Invitational Tuesday at Conquistador Golf Course in Cortez.

The Mean Moose took sixth place out of 15 teams with a score of 248. Eliott MacKey led Alamosa as he tied for 13^th place with an 81. Brady Van Iwaarden tied for 16^th with an 83, Clayton Treinen tied for 22^nd with an 84, and Serjio Najera and Zavier Medina both tied for 42^nd place with an 89.

The Pirates were ninth with 252. Connor Mellott was Monte Vista’s leader as he tied for third place with a two-over-par 74. Corbin Castillo tied for 39^th with an 88, Aiden Ford tied for 48^th with a 90, Jakoby Ross was 54^th with a 91, and Jason Gonzales tied for 73^rd with a 100.

Three more Pirates played as extras and did not figure in the team score. Otto Gosar tied for 78^th with a 105, Rylen Ross was 85^th with a 119, and Zaiden Villagomez was 86^th with a 129.

Durango won the team championship with 226. Pagosa Springs was second with 235, Montrose was third with 238, and Grand Junction Central and Telluride tied for fourth with 243.

Pagosa Springs’ Johnathon Smith and Durango’s Drew Jepson tied for medalist honors as both shot a one-under-par 71.

Alamosa and Monte Vista both played at the Pueblo County Invitational at Hollydot Golf Course on Friday. The next action for the Mean Moose will be Monday at the Pueblo South Invitational at Elmwood Golf Course on Monday, While Monte Vista and Del Norte will be at the Pagosa Springs Invitational on Wednesday.
