Alamosa girls win league meet, boys second

ALAMOSA – The Alamosa High School girls track and field team won the Intermountain League championship, while the boys were second in their meet.

The meet occurred at the Pine River Invitational in Bayfield on Saturday.

Alamosa

The Alamosa girls scored 176 points and they had seven individual champions.

Kaylee Gonzales-Moore won the 100-meter dash in 12.84 seconds and the 200 in 27.25. Lily Heersink won the 100-meter high hurdles in 18.15 and the 300 intermediate hurdles in 49.70. Elizabeth McQuitty won the 800-meter run in 2:26.73 and the 3,200 in 12:36.48. Timay Garcia won the pole vault at 9-0.

Two more Lady Mean Moose finished second. Kailynn King was the runner-up in the 400 in 1:01.46 and she was also fourth in the 200 in 28.30. Amelia Martinez was second in the pole vault at 7-7.

Finishing third were Olivia Formisano in the 1,600 in 6:03.24 and she was also sixth in the 3,200 in 15:25.29, and Daelyn Jackson who was third in the high jump at 4-11, fifth in the 300 hurdles in 54.91 and sixth in the 100 in 19.22.

Four Lady Mean Moose placed fourth. Brooklyn Boehm was fourth in the shot put at 29-6 and fifth in the discus at 90-6. Victoria Gifford was fourth in the 800 in 2:34.47. A’Jordanae Lewis was fourth in the 200 in 1:04.50 and eighth in the long jump at 14-4 ½. Zalebriel Smart tied for fourth in the long jump at 14-10 ½ and was seventh in the 100 in 13.75.

Also placing for the Alamosa girls were Isabella Lopez who was fifth in the 1,600 in 15:25.24 and sixth in the 800 in 6:18.90, Brandi Garrison who was sixth in the discus at 87-6, Alicia Gonzalez who was sixth in the triple jump at 28-11 ½, and Mariah Sheffield who was sixth in the 200 in 28.54.

The Lady Mean Moose also won two relays. They were first in the 4x100 in 51.36 and the 4x800 in 10:36.30.

The Alamosa boys scored 118 points, which was second behind Montezuma-Cortez with 137.

Ethan Merrick won two individual events. He won the 1,600 in 4:51.15 and the 3,200 in 11:16.59. He was also fourth in the 800 in 2:13.08.

Three more Moose finished second. Jeremiah DeLaCerda was second in the 3,200 in 11:16.76. Brayden Moeller was second in the 200 in 22.35 and third in the 100 in 11.19. Cody Williams was second in the 800 in 2:09.74 and also second in the 1,600 in 4:57.98.

Also placing for the Alamosa boys were Tomine Dolan who was fourth in the 400 in 54.69, Tyler Dokson who was fifth in the 800 in 2:13.19 and fifth in the 1,600 in 5:06.08, Landon Garcia who was fifth in the discus at 113-8, Adlai Gardner who was fifth in the 300 hurdles in 45.21, and Hoyt Johnson who was seventh in the pole vault at 9-1.

The Mean Moose also placed in all four relays. They won the 4x800 in 8:39.24, were second in the 4x100 in 44.50, second in the 4x400 in 3:36.48, and third in the 4x200 in 1:39.07.

Centauri

The Centauri girls were second with 116 points. They had two champions in Jocelyn Jarvies who won the triple jump at 30-10, and McKenzie Torres who won the 1,600 in 5:41.98 and was second in the 800 in 2:32.19.

Also finishing second were Bailey Graber who was second in the 1,600 in 5:43.58 and fifth in the 800 in 2:36.06, and Macey McCarroll who was second in the triple jump at 30-1 and third in the 800 in 2:33.95.

Also placing third were Mikasa Gilleland in the long jump at 14-11. Rylie McCarroll was third in the discus at discus, 97-0, tied for fifth in the high jump at 4-7 and fifth in the shot put at 28-3. Harper Russell was third in the 100 hurdles in 18.81.

Placing fourth were Analyn Dwyer in the high jump at 4-9, and Brooklyn Shawcroft and Lyndie Sowards who both tied for fourth in the triple jump at 29-2.

Also placing for the Lady Falcons were Sidney Haslett who tied for fifth in the high jump at 4-7 and was eighth in the shot put at 27-0, Kourtney Heikes who was sixth in the 800 in 2:36.09, Jeana Dunn who was seventh in the 3,200 in 16:16.45, and Faith Medellin who was eighth in the 400 in 1:13.40.

Centauri also placed in all four girls relays including a win in the 4x400 in 4:25.03. It was also second in the 4x800 in 12:36.85, third in the 4x200 in 1:54.71, and fourth in the 4x100 in 54.08.

The Centauri boys finished in fourth place with 97 points. They had two champions in Blake Johnson who won the shot put at 39-6 ¼, and Troy Sowards who won the high jump at 6-9 and was third in the long jump at 20-3.

Ben Norton placed third in both hurdle events. He had a time of 17.20 in the 110 hurdles and 43.45 in the 300 hurdles in 43.45.

Also placing for the Falcons were Carson Bagwell and Donovan Jarvies who both tied for fourth in the high jump 5-11, Diego Cortez, who was fourth in the discus at 114-8, Graham Hunzeker who was fourth in the shot put at 37-5 ½, Durant Gilleland who was fifth in the 400 in 54.84, Carson Shawcroft who was fifth in the triple jump at 38-6, Lincoln Bagwell who was sixth in the 800 in 2:16.81, Gavin Graber who was seventh in the 1,600 in 5:19.80 and eighth in the 3,200 in 12:48.42, Dallyn King who was eighth in the 100 in 11.77, and Dorian Quintana who was eighth in the discus at 107-9.

The Falcons placed in three relays. They won the 4x400 in 3:27.04, were second in the 4x800 in 9:00.20 and fifth in the 4x100 in 45.94.

Four other SLV schools, Creede, Sanford, Sangre de Cristo and Sierra Grande competed in the Pine River Invitational.

Creede

Creede had only one girl place as Ava Mankowski was seventh in the 200 in 1:10.86 and seventh in the 300 hurdles in 57.34.

The Creede boys didn’t place.

Sanford

Sanford also one one girl place as Erica Miller won the 400 in 59.65 and was second in the 200 in 27.41.

The Lady Mustangs placed in two relays. They were fifth in the 4x200 in 2:01.29 and seventh in the 4x100 in 55.42.

Bryce Keck was the only Mustang to place as he was eighth in the triple jump at 35-6 ½.

Sanford placed in two boys relays. It was fourth in the 4x200 in 1:39.50 and eighth in the 4x100 in 47.37.

Sangre de Cristo

Two Lady Thunderbirds placed as Taylor Freel was seventh in the discus at 85-10, and Olyvia Wofford was seventh in the 100 hurdles in 19.54.

For the Thunderbirds, Brody Artaechevarria was third in the 800 in 2:13.03 and Hayden Cleve tied for fourth in the pole vault at 9-7.

Sierra Grande

Eneria Quintana was the only Lady Panther to place as she tied for sixth in the long jump at 14-9 ¼ and was eighth in the 200 in 29.05.

For the Sierra Grande boys, Carlos Lopez was seventh in the shot put at 35-7 ½, Rolando Najera was seventh in the high jump at 5-9, Ayden Lopez was eighth in the triple jump at 37-2, and Jaydn Martinez tied for eighth in the high jump at 5-7.

What’s next

Del Norte will host the Southern Peaks League Meet on Thursday. Antonito, Center, Creede, Del Norte, Moffat, Monte Vista, Sanford, Sangre de Cristo and Sierra Grande will be competing at the meet. Alamosa and Centauri will also send some athletes to that meet.

Alamosa and Del Norte will also compete at the Pueblo Twilight Meet Friday at Dutch Clark Stadium.

Antonito, Centauri,  Center, Moffat and Sangre de Cristo will be at the Cinco de Mayo Invitational in Walsenburg on Friday.

Creede, Moffat, Monte Vista and Sanford will be at the Terry Alley Invitational in Pagosa Springs on Saturday.
