LA JARA – The eighth-ranked Alamosa High School girls wrestling team defeated Centauri 36-12 Thursday at the CHS gym.
“Our girls are plugging away and getting better,” said Alamosa coach Rusty Johnson. “It’s nice to see that Centauri has a girls team. I like that. It gives the girls some duals. They’re young and they’ll get better and we’ll get better. I think it’s exciting to get the girls going.”
Only three individual matches took place – all in the lower weights.
First, Leah Pintor pinned Beijah Sowards in 3:33 at 100 pounds. Then it took Kennedy Hillis just 22 seconds to pin Juliana Rendon at 110, then Gizelle Meraz pinned Mckenzie Torres in 34 seconds at 115.
Samantha Maestas (120) and Timay Garcia (125) both won by forfeit.
Centauri’s wins both came by forfeit as Lauren Gallegos (130) and Sophia Rendon (135) both had their hands raised.
Alamosa’s Tiyonna Tyson won by forfeit at 190.
Alamosa will be in Castle Rock this weekend for the Tiara Challenge at Douglas County High School.
“That’s a really, really good tournament,” Johnson said. “There’s a lot of good Class 5A girls there.
