ALAMOSA – The Alamosa High School boys cross country team qualified for the state meet with a second-place finish at the Class 3A Region 2 Meet Thursday at North Monument Valley Park in Colorado Springs.

The Mean Moose scored 53 points, 19 points behind the regional champion Salida.

Leading the Alamosa boys was Ethan Merrick who finished in third place in 16:39.64, and Jeremiah DeLaCerda who was fifth in 16:41.89.

Also scoring for the Mean Moose were Tyler Dokson who was 12th in 17:18.45, Cody Williams who was 17th in 17:41.36, William Wilson who was 20th in 17:46.19, and Brody Artaechevarria who was 25th in 18:09.89.

Also running for Alamosa was Cael Canaan who was 30th in 18:43.75, Cody DiCamillo who was 52nd in 20:16.40, and Danny Lopez who was 63rd in 21:09.71.

The Centauri boys finished in fifth place with 127 points. The Falcons finished just two points behind Lamar and did not qualify for state.

One Centauri runner will compete at state as an individual as Carson Bagwell placed ninth in 17:05.45.

Other Falcons who scored included Tyrel Hostetter who was 21st in 17:50.05, Lincoln Bagwell who was 23rd in 17:56.26, Troy Sowards who was 38th in 19:31.60, Dice Koontz who was 53rd in 20:26.07, Rhett Taylor who was 56th in 20:40.16, and Gavin Graber who was 68th in 21:32.35.

Other Centauri runners included Hunter Horton who was 81st in 24:28.63, and Liam Sowards who was 83rd in 25:06.27.

Neither the Alamosa or Centauri girls were able to qualify their entire teams to state.

Alamosa finished fifth with 115 points and it will send two runners to state to compete as individuals. The Lady Mean Moose were led by Elizabeth McQuitty who was the individual champion in 18:25.08. Victoria Gifford will also go to state as she finished 13th in 20:52.20

Other Alamosa scorers were Olivia Formisano who was 27th in 21:24.74, Vanessa Villalva who was 32nd in 22:18.04, Reese Canaan who was 47th in 23:43.56, Abigail Adams who was 57th in 24:19.05, and Isabella Lopez who was 60th in 25:02.17.

The remaining Alamosa runner, Camryn Zook, finished 66th in 26:05.21.

The Centauri girls placed sixth with 155 points. The Lady Falcons, however, will not send any runners to state.

Leading Centauri was Mckenzie Torres who was 21st in 21:17.66. Other Lady Falcon scorers included Kourtney Heikes who was 24th in 21:19.22, Bailey Graber who was 34th in 22:20.06, Jocelyn Jarvies who was 39th in 22:32.49, Ella Guymon who was 46th in 23:37.61, Hannah Guymon who was 49th in 23:45.65, and Faith Medellin who was 54th in 24:06.40.

The remaining Centauri competitors were Brooklyn Shawcroft who was 56th in 24:18.33, and Lyndie Sowards who was 58th in 24:25.40.

State meet is next week

Alamosa and Centauri will wrap up the 2024 season at the Class 3A State Meet which will take place at the Norris Penrose Events Center in Colorado Springs. The 3A girls meet will start at 9:40 a.m. and the boys will run at 11 a.m.
