PUEBLO – The Alamosa High School baseball team played two games Saturday at the Runyon Sports complex.

It was not a successful outing for the Mean Moose as they lost to Brush, 12-2, and then lost to Eaton, 24-0.

“They’re both good teams and I give them all the cr5edit,” said Alamosa coach Tony Kechter. “We just need to do better as a team. We just have to come together. It’s a good thing it’s still early, and a lot of the young guys got to play today which was really good and I saw a lot of good things from them.”

Brush 12, Alamosa 2

The first game took place on Andenucio Field, and after a scoreless first inning, the Beetdiggers struck for one run in the bottom of the second inning.

Trae Romero singled and was moved to second on Dylan Krob’s sacrifice bunt. Kaleb Jiminez was hit by a pitch, and River Hodgeson also singled. Romero scored on a balk.

Brush scored two more runs in the third. Landon Mesch had a leadoff double and Ben Mettlen was hit by a pitch. They both scored on sacrifice flies by Percy Odle and Romero.

The Beetdiggers scored three times in the fourth. Keeton Jilek led off with a single and, Thatcher Queen, who was courtesy running for Jilek, stole second and scored on Hodgeson’s single.

Mesch singled to plate Hodgeson, and Mettlen was safe on an error to bring home Mesch.

Brush increased the lead to 8-0 in the fifth. Odle led off with a double and scored on Romero’s single. Krob also singled, and Jilek reached on a fielder’s choice. Hodgeson was safe on an error to plate Romero.

The Mean Moose scored their only runs in the top of the sixth. Jonah Pittman singled with two out and he came around to score on A.J. Baker’s triple. Baker scored on a passed ball to cut the deficit to 8-2.

Brush scored four times in its half of the sixth. Mesch, Mettlen and Odle all walked, and Mesch and Mettlen scored on wild pitches. Romero was hit by a pitch, and Krob reached on an error to bring home Odle and Romero to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Pittman started on the mound for Alamosa and he took the loss. He allowed eight runs and nine hits and he struck out three, walked none and hit one batter. Tony Griego relieved Pittman in the sixth and he gave up four runs and no hits while striking out one, walking three and hitting one.

The Mean Moose managed only four hits and were led by Baker who went 2-3 with a triple and one RBI. Jaidyn Burciaga and Pittman both went 1-3.

Eaton 24, Alamosa 0

The second game shifted to Hobbs Field with the Reds taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Vinnie Juarez and Cash Rinker both walked to open the game, and Liam Whalen was hit by a pitch. Juarez scored on a wild pitch.

Eaton started to pull away in the second with an eight-run inning. It had five hits and it received two walks and one hit batter. There were also two errors in the inning.

The Reds scored once in the third. Juarez singled and took second on a wild pitch. He came home on Whalen’s single to give Eaton a 10-0 lead.

The Reds scored two more runs in the fourth. Gunnar Garrison led off with a single as did Greyson Clingan. Jackson Denooy singled home Garrison.

The hustle play of the day came with the next batter, Shane Wells. Wells popped out to catcher Carlos Garcia who then ran to home to put out Clingan before he could score.

Juarez walked and Rinker singled to plate Denooy for a 12-0 lead.

Eaton out the game away with 12 runs in the fifth. The highlight of the inning was a three-run inside-the-park home run by Denooy.

The Reds had eight hits in the inning and they had seven walks.

The Mean Moose stranded three runners in scoring position. Baker was left on third in the second, Camden Montoya was left on second in the fourth, and Ryan Higareda was left on third in the fifth.

The game ended on the 10-run rule.

Xavier Lujan was the starting pitcher and he was tagged with the loss. He allowed nine runs and five hits and he struck out three, walked four and hit one batter. Evan Anderson went to the mound in the second and he gave up seven runs and eight hits and he had two strikeouts and two walks.
