SOUTH FORK — On Sept. 6, at approximately 4:14 p.m., a fire was reported near a residence at 2251 Willow Park Dr. in Willow Park Ranch, according to South Fork Fire Rescue. The notification was received through the Alamosa Regional Communications Center.

Upon arrival, South Fork Fire Rescue Command 1 observed approximately a half-acre fire in the grass and traveling into the trees. Due to the wind, high temperatures and low fuel moisture, the fire was spreading quickly. Additional engines responded and a containment line was completed. After it was contained, the fire was mopped up and extinguished.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries to report, according to South Fork Fire Rescue.

The origin and cause of the fire was a brush pile that was being burned by the property owner, according to South Fork Fire Rescue.

“While there are currently no fire restrictions in place in the district, if you are going to burn it’s your responsibility to check the weather conditions and do not burn on a red flag day,” SFFR officials stated.

Information on fire restrictions and a link to find the red flag warnings can be found on the SFFR website at www.southforkfirerescue.com/fire-restrictions.
