NPS annual Christmas Bird Count a success

Posted

Volunteers and park staff took part in the annual Christmas Bird Count in Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. This year the park had about 15 volunteers who spent most of the day to see how many and what types of birds are flying in and around the park. The count included a few special encounters of Evening Grosbeaks and a Merlin that originates along the Alaskan/Pacific coast. The data from the volunteers will be enumerated and analyzed by the science staff at the park.
