Alfred Laverne Pierce, affectionately known as Al to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025, in South Fork, Colo. Born on Jan. 9, 1935, in Cottonwood Falls, Kan., Al's journey through life was marked by his friendly demeanor, captivating presence, and a lifetime of dedicated service to his community.
Al's early years in Kansas were the foundation of his strong work ethic and community spirit. In 1955, he moved to Colorado, where he began working at the Paul Weaver Ranch. His commitment to his country was evident when he served in the United States Navy, an experience that shaped much of his later life.
Upon returning to Colorado, Al embarked on a long and distinguished career with the Colorado Department of Transportation. Starting as a Plow Driver, his dedication and hard work saw him rise through the ranks to become a Senior Highway Foreman.
Beyond his professional life, Al was deeply involved in his community. He served with distinction on the Ambulance and Search and Rescue in Rio Grande County, volunteered with the South Fork Fire Department, and was an active member of the SLV Little Britches Rodeo, Boy Scouts, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. His contributions to these organizations were not just acts of service but a testament to his character and his unwavering commitment to helping others.
Al is survived by his children Cynthia Wojciechowicz of Monte Vista, Colo., Eric (Stephanie) Pierce of Del Norte, Colo., Gloria Harris of Del Norte, Colo., Martha (Steven) Jeffries of Cushing, TX, Josephine (Shane Carr) Pierce of South Fork, Colo., and Hot Springs, Mont., and Elizabeth (Grant) Woods of North Platte, Neb.. His legacy continues through his 15 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends who will cherish his memory.
Al was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lela May Pierce, his children Mark Andrew Pierce, Albert Samuel Pierce, and Samarah Majelle Pierce, grandson Cole Aaron Harris, his parents, two brothers, and six sisters.
Al Pierce's life was a testament to the power of friendliness and an interesting character. His memory will be held in the hearts of those who knew him as a beacon of light and a source of inspiration. Al's passing leaves a void in the community he served so well, but his spirit will continue to guide and influence the lives he touched for generations to come.
A visitation will be held from 9-9:45 a.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 10 a.m. all on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the Del Norte Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment will follow services in the Del Norte Cemetery.
