26 valley football players named All-State by CHSAA

Four locals named first team

ALAMOSA – The Colorado High School Activities Association released its All-State football teams on Tuesday with 26 athletes from the San Luis Valley being recognized.

The All-State teams are posted on the CHSAANow.com web site.

Class 2A

Alamosa

In Class 2A, four Alamosa athletes were named All-State and they were led by senior quarterback Dyson Woodward who was named to the first team.

Woodward led the Mean Moose in both rushing and passing this past season. He ran for 1,285 yards on 149 carries and he scored 12 touchdowns. He also completed 76 of 145 passes for 1,175 yards and nine touchdowns. He played limited defense and recorded 14 tackles.

Also named All-State were senior offensive lineman/linebacker Landon Garcia who was named to the second team, junior offensive lineman/defensive lineman Josh Gonzalez who was honorable mention, and senior running back/linebacker Zane Zook who was also honorable mention.

Garcia had 70 total tackles, one sack and one interception.

Gonzalez had 23 tackles, one sack and one fumble recovery.

Zook ran for 956 yards on 146 carries and seven touchdowns and he had 11 receptions for 151 yards and one touchdown. On defense, Zook had 44 tackles, 4 ½ sacks and two fumble recoveries one of which was a touchdown.

Class 1A

Thirteen players from the valley were named All-State in Class 1A.

Centauri

Centauri had five selections and it was led by senior running back/outside linebacker Parker Buhr who was named to the first team.

Buhr ran for 1,027 yards on 148 carries and he scored 11 touchdowns. He also had three receptions for 28 yards. On defense, Buhr recorded 65 tackles and 1 ½ sacks.

Senior tight end/defensive end Jace Haslett was a second team selection. He had 11 receptions for 142 yards and two touchdowns, and he also ran for 67 yards on three carries and scored one touchdown. On defense, he had 25 tackles and ½ sacks He was also the Falcons’ kicker

Three other Falcons were honorable mention including senior lineman Jace Creel, junior quarterback/cornerback Sean Jarvies, and junior guard/defensive tackle Spencer Smith.

Creel had 36 tackles and 3 ½ sacks.

Jarvies completed 51 of 78 passes for 834 yards and eight touchdowns, and he ran for 91 yards on 26 carries and two touchdowns.

Smith had 29 tackles and two sacks.

Monte Vista

Monte Vista had six selections and was led by junior offensive lineman/defensive lineman Zach Gallegos, junior wide receiver/defensive back Azariah Hurtado, and senior quarterback/linebacker Kaden Madrid, all of whom were second team.

Hurtado had 35 receptions for 876 yards and 13 touchdowns and he ran for three yards on one carry. On defense, he had 69 tackles, eight interceptions and three fumble recoveries,

Madrid completed 84 of 132 passes for 1,585 yards and 18 touchdowns and he ran for 66 yards on 24 carries and one touchdown. Defensively, he had 32 tackles, three sacks and one fumble recovery.

The remaining three Pirates, senior tight end/linebacker Jeremiah Baumgardner, senior wide receiver/defensive back Alex Marquez, Sr., and senior running back/linebacker Jacob Pacheco were all honorable mention.

Baumgardner had two receptions for 14 yards and he ran for four yards on four carries. On defense, he had 71 tacklesone sack and one fumble recovery.

Marquez had 24 receptions for 391 yards and four touchdowns, and he ran for 208 yards on 37 carries and two touchdowns. Defensively, he had 69 tackles, six sacks, one interception and one fumble recovery.

Pacheco ran for 992 yards on 127 carries and 10 touchdowns and he caught four passes for 60 yards. On defense, he had 52 tackles and two interceptions.

Center

Center had two honorable mention selections in senior running back/strong safety Angel Rios, and senior offensive tackle/defensive tackle Noah Swanson.

Rios had four receptions for 20 yards. On defense, he had 19 tackles on one fumble recovery. Swanson had 23 tackles and three sacks.

Eight-man

Sanford

In eight-man football, Sanford had five selections. The Mustangs were led by junior quarterback/middle linebacker Trason Gartrell who was first team.

Gartrell ran for 1,252 yards on 162 carries and 16 touchdowns and he completed 34 of 85 passes for 585 yards and nine touchdowns. On defense, he had 72 tackles and two interceptions.

Junior defensive tackle/offensive guard Ryan Cordova was a second team selection. He collected 59 tackles and two sacks.

The remaining three players, junior running back/outside linebacker J.D. Faucette, junior wide receiver/linebacker William Malouff, and sophomore defensive end/center Lucas Miller were all honorable mention.

Faucette ran for 620 yards on 100 carries and he scored seven touchdowns, and he had five receptions for 56 yards. On defense, he had 58 tackles and two interceptions.

Malouff had two receptions for 26 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, he had 37 tackles and one interception.

Miller had 33 tackles, one sack and one fumble recovery.

Six-man

Sierra Grande

In six-man football, Sierra Grande had four All-State players. The Panthers were led by senior quarterback Aron Ojeda who was a first team selection.

Ojeda completed 106 out of 155 passes for 2,002 yards and 44 touchdowns and he ran for 322 yards on 51 carries and he scored two touchdowns.

The remaining three Panthers, junior center/nose guard Carlos Lopez, junior wide receiver/linebacker Jadyn Martinez, and junior wide receiver/defensive end Rolando Najera were all honorable mention.

Lopez had 49 tackles, 4 ½ sacks and one fumble recovery.

Martinez had 59 receptions for 1,114 yards and 21 touchdowns, and he ran for 49 yards on six carries and three touchdowns. On defense, he had 113 tackles, one sack, six interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Najera had 35 receptions for 757 yards and 19 touchdowns. Defensively, he recorded 45 tackles, three sacks, one interception and two fumble recoveries.
