Mary Frances Benavides of Del Norte, Colo., returned to our Lord on Sept. 2, 2023. She was born on April 18, 1948, in La Garita, Colo. Frances grew up in La Garita and worked as a teacher aide for the Del Norte School District, as the church secretary for several years at Holy Name of Mary in Del Norte, then returned to the Del Norte School District to be a bus driver before retiring.

Longtime Center resident Galen DeGani, 75, passed away peacefully at his home in Center on Sept. 4, 2023.

Center resident Maria J. Viera Cendejas, 72, died Aug. 31, 2023, at the San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center in Alamosa.

Karen Sue Cochran Tempfel, 80, of Columbia, Mo., passed away Sunday, Aug. 27, 2023, at The Villa Blue Ridge.

June 8, 1937-Aug. 24, 2023 Ruth (Ruthie) Ann McClure was born in Elgin, Ill., to Les and Ruth Villars and she and her family moved to Monte Vista, Colo., when she was young.

1926-2023 With the deepest gratitude and hearts warmed by cherished memories, the family of Lila Eloisa Maestas Espinoza announces that she peacefully and gracefully passed away at her home in Monte Vista, Colo., with loved ones at her side. She was 97.

James (Jim) R. Barnes of Monte Vista, Colo., passed away Saturday evening Aug. 26, 2023, with members of his family surrounding him. He was born June 2, 1954, in Kenton, Ohio. He had returned to Kenton to be with his siblings and their families during his illness.

Long-time Monte Vista resident Chris E Glunz passed away peacefully in his home at 83 years old. He was born at home in Elsie, Neb., on June 20, 1940, to John and Anna (Lovenburg) Glunz. Chris graduated from Elsie High School in 1958 with a graduating class of nine seniors. He made his way to Denver, Colo., where he met the mother of his children and they married in 1960. They had three children, C.E., Gary, and Dawn.

On Aug. 19, 2023, William Dean Philbern, affectionately known as "Pops", went to be with the Lord. He passed in his favorite place in the world, his home, at Blue Creek Lodge.

Alan Dean Moyer’s last at-bat was Aug. 10, 2023, at Atria Campana del Rio in Tucson, Ariz., after a year of declining health accompanied by Alzheimer’s disease. Alan was born on Sept. 4, 1928, on the family farm near Galva, Iowa.

On Monday, July 24, 2023 at 3:25 a.m., Loraine Kay (Rockey) (Johnson) Campbell, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away at the age of 80 in Newberg, Ore.

Franklin Earl Rogers, of Centennial, Colo., passed away on Aug. 3, 2023. He was 79 years old. Frank, as he was known by friends and family, was born to Jesse and Jessie Rogers on Jan. 30, 1944, in Culver City, Calif. His family moved to Del Norte, Colo., in 1946, where he grew up enjoying the outdoors with his parents, younger brother Steve, and younger sisters, Dianne and Pam.

Longtime San Luis Valley native and porcelain artist, Catherine Lague Woods, passed away on Aug. 4, 2023, at River Valley Nursing Home in Del Norte, Colorado.

Longtime Del Norte resident Gail Soldato died Sunday, July 30,2023, at the River Valley Rehabilitation Healthcare Center Nursing Home in Del Norte, Colo.

Michael Wallace Danielson, 72, passed away on Aug. 4, 2023. Mike was born Sept. 11, 1950, in Concordia, Kan., to Whitney and Maxine (Ouellette) Danielson. He was preceded in death by his parents Whitney and Maxine Danielson, brother Jeff Danielson.

Benjamin John Davis, 41, died Aug. 5, 2023, at his home in Creede, Colo. He was born on Jan. 23, 1982, in Tribune, Kan., the son of Jane Davis.

Robert "Bob" Kernen, a long-time resident of Del Norte, Colo., peacefully passed away on his birthday, Wednesday, June 28, 2023. Bob was born on June 28, 1950, in Del Norte, Colo., to his parents, John and Betty Kernen.

Mike Golder left this world suddenly on July 4 at his home near Del Norte in the company of his two beloved dogs, Baylee and Hershey. He celebrated his 72nd birthday the previous night by indulging in chocolate cake and an assortment of ice cream.
