ALAMOSA – San Luis Valley Trout Unlimited invites all interested individuals to their annual "Flies and Lies" Holiday Social at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, at Spare Keg Brewerks, 625 Main St., Alamosa. 

ALAMOSA — The San Luis Valley Symphony will join the Valley Community Concert Choir in a performance of “Messiah," and the iconic Hallelujah Chorus by George Frideric Handel on Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. in Richardson Hall on the campus of Adams State University in Alamosa. The symphony will have an encore performance with piano at Sacred Heart Church in Alamosa on Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. 

ALAMOSA — The ASU Percussion Ensemble, ASU Steel Pan Ensemble, and the ASU Grizzly Ensemble dazzled the audience at Richardson Hall on the campus of Adams State University on Nov. 20.  

CRESTONE — Over the last two decades, the Crestone/Baca Grande communities have gathered for an annual Thanksgiving celebration, and this year is no different. The feast benefits the nonprofit Neighbors Helping Neighbors (NHN) group based in Saguache County. 

Although it is very early in the snow season, Colorado is off to a good start.

ALAMOSA — SLV BOCES sends thanks to all 72-plus vendors who came and spoke to local school districts in the SLV about the different career opportunities offered in the Valley.

ALAMOSA – Jamie Damewood, a senior at Sangre de Cristo High School, was crowned the 78th Spud Bowl Queen during halftime of the Adams State University Spud Bowl Football Game on Nov. 16.  

GREAT SAND DUNES NATIONAL PARK AND PRESERVE — The cultures and lifeways of North America’s original inhabitants are tremendously diverse, varying significantly with geographical location and era. Every National Park Service unit, including Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, encompasses the ancestral lands and sacred sites of various Native American tribal nations. 

ALAMOSA — In the newly released PBS documentary "Ancestral Homelands of the Jicarilla Apache,” the longstanding relationship between the Jicarilla, the Earth and its elements is expressed through heritage practices including micaceous clay pottery, basket weaving, plant medicine and storytelling. 

CONEJOS — The Conejos County Sheriff’s Office is requesting cooperation from hunters and outdoorsmen venturing into the backcountry. Due to the recent snowstorm and high winds, treacherous conditions have and will continue to develop. 

Plachy Hall on the Adams State University (ASU) campus was the site of a job fair on Wednesday, with high school students invited (and encouraged) to attend.

CRESTONE — Chris Collins, an acclaimed John Denver tribute musician, will perform at the Crestone Charter School on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. 

ALAMOSA – As winter sets in and people begin to focus more closely on their health and wellness, SLV Apothecary is offering a series of workshops in November and December devoted to herbal medicine.  

BACA and MONTE VISTA NWR — Monte Vista Office of Colorado Parks and Wildlife is offering an opportunity for hunters to help mitigate game damage conflicts on and surrounding the Baca and Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuges. 

CREEDE – Creede Repertory Theatre (CRT) will open its 60th anniversary season in May. The season will be its first under new Artistic Director Emily Van Fleet and will include two musicals, a theatrical adventure comedy, a riveting drama, and more. CRT will open all its main shows before the end of June.  

ALAMOSA - Sue Foster, Quality Consultant with Hospice del Valle for over 10 years, retired at the end of October. 

MONTE VISTA — The eighth annual Rio Reels Film Festival will take place Friday, Nov. 15, from 6-9: p.m., at the Ski-Hi Banquet Hall in Monte Vista. 

Classical pianist Dmytro Vynogradov will be performing on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. at the Colorado College Amphitheater.   

ALAMOSA – Voters in Alamosa had 13 propositions and amendments to consider plus two ballot measures for the city of Alamosa and a bond request for the Alamosa School District. 

ALAMOSA — The Alamosa Public Library will host historian Dave Lively to present his talk, "Rocky's West Side Stories," and discuss the region's human history. The free presentation is on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m.
