West end of San Luis Valley sets plans for Halloween

RIO GRANDE COUNTY — Spooky season is just around the corner and there are several family friendly events planned for the western end of the San Luis Valley. With Halloween taking place on a Tuesday this year, most of the events will take place the weekend before.

Starting in Del Norte, the Del Norte Community Ambulance Service will be hosting a Halloween party inside the new Del Norte Fire Station located at 955 French St. in the old Del Norte High School Field House. This event will feature free games, fun family activities and, of course, candy.

In addition to the Halloween fun, the organization will also be having a chili dinner with all proceeds going toward the ambulance service. The event is set for Oct. 29 from 3 to 7 p.m. The chili dinner is $10 for adults, $7 for children ages 6 to 12 and children 5 years old and younger are free.

For the past seven years, the South Fork Fire Rescue and South Fork Fire Rescue Ladies Auxiliary has brought spooky fun to the South Fork community and this year the two organizations plan on putting on a hauntingly good time. The Halloween Extravaganza will be on Oct. 31 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the South Fork Fire Rescue Fire Station and will feature Trunk or Treats, costume contests and more.

South Fork Fire Rescue Ladies Auxiliary is seeking volunteers for the event. Anyone who would like to host a Trunk or Treat or to host a game for attendees can reach out to the organization at 719-588-0656 or message them on Facebook under South Fork Fire Rescue Ladies Auxiliary page. The event does include a free dinner of hotdogs, chips and a drink. The organization is also accepting donations of candy.

The fun moves up to Creede where those looking for some more frightfully fun events can come to a PG-rated haunted house at the Creede Underground Mining Museum on Oct. 28 and 31. On Oct. 28, people can come enjoy a Trunk or Treat and Halloween Party and then wander through the underground mining museum that will be transformed into a haunted house.

Another PG-rated haunted house will take place on Oct. 31. Times will be announced soon. For more information, contact the underground mining museum at 719-658-0811 or follow them on Facebook for additional details.
