SOUTH FORK — Memorial Day weekend is just around the corner and marks the beginning of summer activities in the San Luis Valley. With the trees leafing, flowers starting to pop-up all-over town and the Rio Grande running strong, the Town of South Fork and the South Fork Friends Foundation (SFFF) are gearing up for the annual town-wide yard sale and clean up days.

This annual event is a way to welcome people coming to town and to kick off summer. One man’s junk is another man’s treasure so local business owners and residents pull out of their used wares and set the town up for a huge yard sale on June 10.

During this time, the Town of South Fork also offers a chance to get rid of trash and yard debris by offering free dumpsters at the South Fork Visitor Center from June 9 through June 11.

All day on June 10 is the perfect time to get rid of the old and maybe find something new. Residents are encouraged to set up yard sales at their homes throughout town and to add their addresses to a town-wide map for people to use to find different sales. The South Fork Visitor Center parking lot is also open for people wanting to set up tables to sell their wares.

In the last few weeks, the Town also worked with local youth to clean up the baseball fields located near the South Fork Community Center. Local youth gathered at the ballfields, worked throughout the morning cleaning, and finished just in time for an afternoon game of kickball. The SFFF supplied the youth with bases for their pickup game and the Town of South Fork supplied tools for the clean-up.

This is only the beginning of events for the coming summer and a full schedule can be found on the town’s website at www.southfork.org.

Anyone wanting to add their yard sale to the list can call the South Fork Visitor Center at 719-873-5512 or stop in and visit with staff.
