South Fork Friends Foundation donates $13K

SOUTH FORK- The South Fork Community Center will soon be sporting a new look. On Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, Kris Steffens and Lisa Butcher of the South Fork Friends Foundation met with Town Administrator Dan Hicks, Mayor Rodney Reed, and Visitor Center Director Mark Teders at the South Fork Town Hall. The foundation presented Dan, Rodney, and Mark with a check in the amount of $13,000 to assist in the purchase of new tables and chairs for the community center. The South Fork Community Center is a staple location for events such as Logger’s Days, the Annual Kiwanis Thanksgiving Dinner, and Winterfest to name a few. The update to the facility is much needed and deserved.
The completion of the grant request will be the first grant awarded since the merger of the Greater South Fork Community Foundation and the Friends of South Fork in early fall this year. The Greater South Fork Community Foundation has been working with the community since the Millions Fire in 2002. They have worked with South Fork and surrounding communities to fulfill grant requests submitted by local organizations.
The Friends of South Fork started by Kris Steffens and a group of friends who wished to see changes in the South Fork community, has been responsible for several updates to local venues such as Rickle Park’s Ice-Skating Rink, Pickleball Court, softball equipment and successful programs to assist locals in a time of need including the Dine-In South Fork 25% Off program, and events and activities to enhance the already great qualities of South Fork. The Yuletide Festival held the Friday after Thanksgiving is a signature event for the Friends of South Fork and will continue to be held annually hosted by the South Fork Friends Foundation.
Through generous donations from friends, the South Fork Friends Foundation looks forward to expanding their efforts in creating additional programs, continuing to improving town venues, and hosting events that will make South Fork a more enjoyable place to live and visit.
