South Fork Cleanup Day scheduled for May 3

SOUTH FORK — The South Fork Friends Foundation in partnership with the Silver Threaders of South Fork will be hosting a town-wide Cleanup Day. Wind and other winter weather bring a lot of debris to roadways and community areas throughout town.

The two groups will be doing a roadside cleanup in South Fork on Monday, May 3 at 9 a.m. beginning in the Visitor Center parking lot. People who would like to participate are asked to bring their own bags for trash and any equipment they may need to help pick up debris such as gloves and it is highly suggested to bring a brightly colored vest, if you have one.

A representative from the Friends Foundation said, “It seems to have been particularly windy this spring and there is trash everywhere. We would like to encourage business owners and residents along Highway 149 and 160 to join us in this effort. Beyond that we would like to do this every first Monday of the month throughout the summer, again, in cooperation with the Silver Threaders and the businesses and residents. This is our town; we take pride in the first and last impressions of those passing through and want them to return.”

In addition to the cleanup days, the Friends Foundation is also getting ready for its annual town-wide yard sale. The fifth annual yard sale is June 12 and people can sign up now for the community event.

The yard sale begins at 9 a.m. on June 12. In past years, the town has seen a tremendous turn out for this event. Those who wish to participate in the yard sale and want to get their location on the community wide event map need to contact Mark Teders at the South Fork Visitor Center at 719-873-5512. Participants can also privately message the Friends Foundation on its Facebook page.

The deadline to sign up for the yard sale and get their address on the list is June 9.

Participants who don’t have a location to set up at can set up at the Visitor Center parking lot where many people come to get the map that leads them to all other yard sales around town.

People who are selling during the yard sale can take advantage of the free dumpsters that will be at the Visitor’s Center, Friday through Sunday, to help clean out garages and home areas. For more information, contact Teders at 719-873-5512.
