RIO GRANDE COUNTY — After 40 years of service to Rio Grande County serving as both Deputy Treasurer and recently Treasurer, Cherilyn Rue retired from her position on Dec. 29. Rue served as Treasurer after being elected in 2018.

Rue grew up in South Fork and graduated high school from Del Norte before landing a job at the FBI in Washington, D.C. There, Rue spent her days learning about the culture outside of a small-town and processing fingerprints for the FBI.

Throughout her 35 years with the RGC Treasurer’s Office before running for office, Rue worked with three different treasurers and when she heard news her predecessor Peggy Kern was going to retire, she made the decision to run for the open Treasurer seat.

County officials held a small going away party for Rue on her last day in office. Newly elected Treasurer Rhonda Richardson was sworn-in on Jan. 3.
