Remembering Architect Mark M. Jones on May 15

...

DEL NORTE— It was two years ago on May 15, 2016 that local architect Mark M. Jones succumbed to Hantavirus, “A Legend Taken Too Soon.” Jones was honored as “Citizen of the Year 2012” for his 14 years of donated time as architectural and project manager in the restoration of the Windsor Hotel in Del Norte. Along with his many area restoration projects, Jones designed new homes, banks, office, community and county buildings. As he is remembered, it’s timely to list his more than 50 design and restoration projects in the area.
After a full career capped off as director of facilities planning management at Stanford University, Jones “retired” and opened a small architecture office in 1997 at 1085 Grand Ave, Del Norte, with architect Mark Kolb. It was known as “Jones and Kolb.” After Kolb passed away in 2000, the office became “Mark M. Jones Associates.” Jones’ most recent office was in one of his five historically restored professional buildings adjacent to the Windsor Hotel.
