Racing fun for all ages at Wolf Creek Ski Area

Younger racers received coaching and support at the first Fun Race of the year at Wolf Creek Ski Area.


WOLF CREEK SKI AREA — The first of seven fun races at Wolf Creek Ski Area on Dec. 15 drew competitors as young as Sierra Rich in the 3–5 age class and four men 71-plus.
Racing in the 26–30 age group, Chris Foti won with a time of 26:07 on his first run. Dan Stephens won the 41–50 age category and finished second overall with a 26:69 clocking. In third, Buzz Burke’s single run was 26:84, tops in the 71-plus age group. Corbin Horrocks (9–11) finished fourth with a time of 27:19.
More than a dozen races remain on the Wolf Creek calendar until closing day. Next up, the Fun Race Series resumes on Jan. 6. The Wolf Creek Challenge Series Giant Slalom Race is scheduled for Jan. 13, and the MLK Jr. Race follows a week later on Jan. 20.
The Fun Race Series continues on Jan. 27 with the final four races on Feb. 10 and 24 and March 23 and 30. The fun races are free for anyone with a lift ticket, open to skiers of all ages and abilities. Participants register in the Raven’s Nest between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., or they can sign up at the top of the course after 11 a.m.
The Holiday Race Series wraps up with the Super Bowl Race on Feb. 3, President’s Day Race on Feb. 17, Mardi Gras race on March 2, Spring Fling Race on March 9 and the St. Patrick’s Day Race on March 16.
