Letter to the Editor: What the heck is going on with the Rio Grande County government?

To the  editor,

Does anybody know what the heck is going on with the Rio Grande County government? In the last few weeks, the county administrator has resigned, the public health director was fired and the interim county health director abruptly quit.

And there’s more. In the last 18 months, another county administrator, two human resource officers, two bookkeepers, two emergency managers, two clerks, the head of maintenance and a weed district employee were all either forced to resign or quit voluntarily.

I think we know why - county commissioner John Noffsker. There is a petition circulating in the county that calls for his removal. It states he conducts himself in a “volatile, threatening, confrontational, aggressive, bullying and unprofessional manner.”

Who wants to work for a guy like that? The petition also states that Noffsker is incompetent and not prepared for meetings. It says he creates an adversarial environment and chaos with other elected county officials. He also failed to follow state and county policy, procedures and statutes, including, but not limited to, open meeting laws.

This doesn’t sound like a person who should be a public official. It sounds more like a person who is arrogant.

If you want to sign the petition to recall county commissioner John Noffsker, contact one of the following people: Mona Syring, [email protected], Mettje Swift, [email protected] or Deanne Elliott, [email protected] .
