Letter to the Editor: A lot of people riled up for $3 in donations

To the editor:

As the founder of the South Fork Farmers Market and sole owner of the South Fork Farmers Market Trademark, I have been approached by several people asking me what has been going on with the market. I would like to be very clear in stating that I have absolutely nothing to do with the drama that’s going on currently. When I started the market at the South Fork Visitors Center in 2013 (started planning everything in 2011 and 2012), I had a meeting with the Town of South Fork in which they explained some of the rules and regulations that they had on “their” private property which I strictly adhered to. There was nothing unreasonable. I also wanted to be clear that Sol Mountain Farm infringed upon my trademark this year by thinking they could name the Friday market the South Fork Farmers Market without my knowledge or approval. I even got a call from Liza Marron, Executive Director of the SLV Local Foods Coalition asking me to give up my trademark so Sol Mountain Farm could use it which I didn’t appreciate and she stated to me that Sol Mountain Farm, the SLV Local Foods Coalition and the Town of South Fork had a three year contract to keep this market running and when asked for a copy of this contract, could not come up with one. The Town did not know who she was. In my personal opinion at this point, we have beat this subject to death and got a lot of people riled up - for $3 in donations.
