Della Marie Sanchez, 93

Della M. Sanchez

MONTE VISTA— Long-time Valley resident, Mrs. Della M. Sanchez passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, regularly in the company of her beloved children.
In her passing, an amiable life of purpose has come to an end. Kind, gentle, and sympathetic, Della Sanchez was born in Chama, N.M. in February 1925, the daughter of David and Zenieda Maestas.
A 1942 graduate of Alamosa High School, she married Joseph Demo Sanchez of Monte Vista in 1950, and together raised six children: Kenneth Sanchez (recently deceased), Loretta Sanchez-Waldroup, Gregory Sanchez, Debora Sanchez-Toth, Cathy (Paul) Haskell and Connie (John) Schroeder.
As matriarch of a large family, she touched the lives of eight grandchildren: Charlie (Shelia) Sanchez, Jodi (Matt) Sandoval, Dana Marie Sanchez, Shawn (Lindsey) Toth, Gregory Waldroup, Matthew (Rachel) Toth, Taylor Haskell and Joey Schroeder. She also helped shape the lives of nine great grandchildren: Tyler Weaver, Peyton and Landon Sanchez, Grayson, Avery, Weston, Sawyer, and Savannah Della Toth and Marcus Sandoval.
The memories of those who knew her are of hope, love, kind and sweet words coming from the depths of her heart. By example, she showed how the mother is everything— she is our consolation in sorrow, our hope in our misery, and our strength in weakness. She is the source of love, mercy, sympathy and forgiveness.
The nourishment of affection and love that Della so easily conveyed, will be greatly missed by all family members.  Her legacy will continue through the memories of those that were closest to her.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. A Vigil Service with recitation of the Rosary will be held at 9 am prior to the mass on Wednesday at the church. Interment will follow services in the Monte Vista Cemetery.  Donations in lieu of flowers are suggested to City of Monte Vista on behalf of Della Sanchez to J.D. Sanchez Park, 95 W First Ave, Monte Vista, CO 81144. To express condolences, please visit www.rogersfunerals.com.
