Daniel Patrick Asay

56 Nov. 19, 1962 – Jan. 2, 2019

MONTE VISTA—This is the story of Daniel Patrick Asay. Daniel was a wonderful man that was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished. Dan was an amazing son, brother, friend, and could definitely eat up your grain and groceries.
Dan’s story began on Nov. 19, 1962, the eldest son of Darrel and Maryellen Asay. He was born in Del Norte, Colo. Dan would grow up on the family farm just outside of Center, Colo. His early years gave us a glimpse of what he would become. Dan loved to be outside playing with his toys pretending to farm, drive long distances to pick up equipment, and corroborate with his little brother.
When old enough to attend school, Dan attended Sargent. He was both proud and fortunate enough to spend all 12 years at Sargent elementary, junior high, and high school. A true “Farmer” where he made many lifelong friends. While at Sargent, Dan participated in art, athletics, and FFA.
Upon graduation, Dan pursued his interest in mechanics by attending Morgan Community College where he earned a certificate in propane. He also attended Northeastern Junior College and earned an Associate’s degree in diesel mechanics. Dan demonstrated his proficiency with propane by converting his pickup, which is still running today, from gasoline to propane.
Dan returned to the San Luis Valley to help on the family farm and as a farmhand at several other farms in the area. He also worked in potato warehouses as a truck driver. In his later years, Dan managed the Shady Rest apartments in Center.
A lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fan, Dan loved to watch them every fall. He also followed the Kansas City Royals during the summer. He also loved to tinker with antique tractors and trucks. In fact, Dan could tell you just about everything about any truck that would pass on the road.
Loved ones that will miss Dan until they meet again are his father Darrel Asay, mother Maryellen Asay and his brother Tom Asay.
And so the story goes on until we see Dan again. We love you and miss you, Dan.
Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
