Arsonist arrested for vehicle fires

SOUTH FORK- In the early morning hours of June 15, South Fork Fire Rescue (SFFR) and the South fork Police Department (SFPD) were dispatched to the Garden Walk apartments east of South Fork to extinguish two vehicles that were ablaze.

According to a report from South Fork Police Chief Coty Arthur, the call came in at around 2:45 a.m. that two vehicles in the parking lot at the apartments were on fire. Law enforcement and fire personnel responded to the scene and were able to extinguish the fire without incident. “Fire crews were able to get everything under control very quickly and no one was hurt, thank goodness,” said Arthur.

Once the vehicles were contained, SFPD began a 14-hour investigation into the incident and were able to bring James Johnson from South Fork into custody. According to Arthur, through investigative work by the police department, they were able to obtain a search warrant for Johnson’s residence and after executing the warrant, were able to find enough evidence to make the arrest.

Johnson will be charged with two counts of second degree arson, two counts of felony menacing and one count of reckless endangerment.
