Adam Ostrega, 95

DEL NORTE—Adam Ostrega passed away on July 17, 2017, at the Rio Grande Hospital in Del Norte.
Adam was born in Zukowice-Stare, Poland on Aug. 30, 1921. On July 26, 1945 Adam married Maria Wojnowska in Schweinfurt, Germany. In September of 1949, they immigrated to the United States with two of their daughters. Their third daughter was born in Alamosa.
Adam retired from the City of Monte Vista where he had worked in the public works department. Prior to that he had worked on farms. Adam enjoyed gardening, growing enough produce to share with family and friends. Fishing was his passion. He was a wonderful carpenter who built two homes in his lifetime. He loved doing jigsaw puzzles, but most of all he loved sharing stories of his life in Poland and Germany. Having his family visit was a great joy to him.
Adam was preceded in death by his wife Maria, his father Slanislaw Kazirod, his mother Agaty Ostrega and one brother, Olgierd Kazirod.
Adam is survived by three daughters, Helena (John) Haws of Monte Vista, Christina (Gary) Imel of Westminster, and Jeanne Ostrega of Monte Vista, a sister-in-law Alina Kazirod and two nieces Violetta and Barbra Kazirod of Poznan, Poland, eleven grandchildren, twenty-five great- grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.
Services were held Friday, July 21 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Monte Vista. A Rosary was held Thursday, July 20.
The family is asking that donations in Adam’s memory be made to Rio Grande Hospital in Del Norte, in care of Strohmayer’s Funeral Home. Service were be directed by Strohmayer’s Funeral Home.
